According to traffic information specialist Trafficmaster, the afternoon and evening of Thursday the 5th of April will see regular commuter traffic merging with ‘get away’ holiday makers. So, as you might expect, it’s estimated to be the busiest day of the year on our roads.

Graham Smith, Data Manager at Trafficmaster, says: “Drivers should expect very heavy traffic on many routes on 5th April when regular commuter traffic will still be on the move. The Easter holiday period is the first opportunity in the spring that many people take a break."

The Department for Transport has released its latest statistics showing that 24,430 people were killed or seriously injured in road accidents during the year ending September 2011.

Beth Powell, Consumer Director at National Accident Helpline, says: “These figures not only highlight the importance of road safety but prove that more needs to be done to stop unnecessary accidents and deaths. With more cars expected on the roads, the chances of an accident are more likely.

“All road users have a role to play in preventing road traffic accidents, but if you do find yourself involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault, whether you are a driver, cyclist or pedestrian, we are here to help. After an accident you may find yourself out of pocket or unable to work due to your injuries. National Accident Helpline has helped hundreds of thousands of people claim the compensation they are entitled to.”
