However, there are things to consider when trying to answer the question - 'can I claim?'

Can I Claim? - Personal Injury Claims:

  • Has the accident, professional or medical negligence occurred in the last three years?
  • Have you only become aware that you may have a potential claim in the last three years?
  • Is your claim as a result of an incident that occurred before your 18th birthday?
  • Are you sure that your claim is 'partly' somebody else's fault?
  • Do you have any medical evidence that would help support your claim?
  • Where there any witnesses?
  • Did you take any photographic evidence?
  • What financial loss have you experienced as a result of your personal injury?
  • To what extent have you and your family suffered?

 

You don't need to be able to answer all the questions above. However, when contacting a personal injury solicitor or claims company, having as many answers as you can will help strengthen your case and help answer your question - can I claim?

Can I Claim? - PPI Claims (Payment Protection Insurance):

  • Have you taken insurance out against a loan, mortgage or credit card in the last six years?
  • If you took insurance out more than six years ago, do you still have documentation available?
  • When you took out the insurance, were you told that:

              - You had to take the insurance to get the loan?
              - Taking insurance would improve your chances of getting the loan?
              - Or, did you not even know that insurance had been added to your loan?

  • When you took out their insurance, were you:

             - Unemployed?
             - Self Employed?
             - Retired?
             - Working less than sixteen hours per week?
             - In the armed forces?
             - Working for the civil service?
             - An NHS member of staff?
             - Suffering from any pre-diagnosed medical condition?

  • If you took out a further loan or credit, were you sold (ppi) insurance again?
  • When paying off a loan in full, did you feel that the full amount owed was much greater than the original loan?

  • Regulations governing mortgage sales state that "A firm must pay due regard to the interests of its customers and treat them fairly". If this did not happen and as a result you have lost out financially, you may be able to claim compensation.

              - Have you mortgaged or re-mortgaged after 2004?
              - Did you take out an interest only mortgage?
              - Did you pay a broker to find you the best mortgage product?
              - Does your mortgage take you into retirement age?
              - Were you advised to self-certify?
              - Did you take out a 'sub-prime' (high interest rate) mortgage?
